Lev was a military doctor during the second world war. After WW2 he worked in China, still as a military doctor. He returned to Gorky(Russia) after demobilization and worked as a neurosurgeon in hospital there. He had a scientific degree as a doctor of sciences, and was the author of several books on neurosurgery.
